Minnesota 30 HR Real Estate Salesperson Prelicense Course 1
How might we design the dashboard of the
Learning Management System for Minnesota
Real Estate Licensing Students to clearly define the steps to completion, and ensure a smooth, efficient experience?
I have worked as a Kaplan Customer Support Specialist for one year. This experience has afforded me a unique "Boots on the Ground" perspective to the daily experience of students. Minnesota has the most delicate course completion process. This is why I chose this dashboard for my case study.

Minnesota Real Estate Students must complete several steps in order to successfully complete each of the three required courses for prelicensing. The current layout of the dashboard does not emphasize the each stage of completion, leading to missteps along the way. The impact of these missteps can be significant for one student. The compounded effect of hundreds of students impacted by the same recurring problems can be massive.
The Pain Points

The student didn't submit his proctor form within 7 days.
He calls Customer Service to ask why he doesn't have a certificate.
One misstep in this process resulted in five steps to correct, and pass through at least three Kaplan employees to get back on track.

The Customer Service Specialist tells the student about the proctor form, and informs him that he will have to retake the exam.
COMMON PAIN POINTS & THE IMPACT

The Customer Service Specialist submits an RFR request to have the student's test reset.

A Sr. Customer Service Agent reviews the request and submits the request to the RFR Team.

RFR resets the student's exam.

The student must reschedule a proctor session and retake the exam.

PROPOSED NEW DASHBOARD
The new layout emphasizes each step. This among other elements, such as the main menu button and a more prominent dropdown menu should help guide students through the Learning Management System more smoothly.
THE CURRENT DASHBOARD

As the student completes each step, the list will convert to check marks, guiding the student step by step to their certificate.
